Hi! I’m Rita Hallaveld

Former LISW therapist turned transformational coach. I’m also a solo parent, recovering perfectionist (relapse happens!), ADHDer, and community organizer with way too many interests.

Before I became a coach, I practiced as a Licensed Independent Social Worker for many years. I’ve worked with people from all walks of life — across diverse identities, backgrounds, and relationship styles. I’m proudly queer-friendly and neurodivergent-affirming, and I bring a compassionate, nonjudgmental lens to everything I do.

I help smart, compassionate women who are tired of over-giving show up for themselves with confidence so they can feel fulfilled in all areas of life.

I left the therapy profession when I had an infant and realized I no longer had the energy to show up for myself and what I needed at that time. My therapy practice was already marked by solution-focused, action-oriented, and strengths-based approaches– but what many of my clients needed wasn’t to fix something wrong with them, but to believe they were already whole and capable. Coaching allows me to help others in a way that is more aligned with my values and honors sustainable energy management because it exists outside of the Western colonial medical model.

I spent my formative years and early adulthood living according to others and sacrificing myself. I was brought up to believe there was something inherently wrong with me because I’m human, that I’d always need someone or something outside of me to heal. I was taught to ignore and distrust my intuition. It took drastic and unexpected losses in life and relationships to see how much I needed to shed outside expectations in order to thrive.

I know what it’s like to:

  • Sacrifice my own well-being in the service of others

  • Make education and career decisions based on what I thought I should do

  • Get bogged down in my feelings and trying to understand the “why” behind something.. And then never taking meaningful action

  • Have to figure out who I am and what I believe after a big life change

  •  Learn when to trust my intuition instead of completely ignoring it.

I believe:

You are not broken.
You deserve to thrive.
You are capable.
We are all responsible for ourselves and our own change.
Change doesn’t have to be so hard.
Sustained change requires new mindsets.
